William Shakespeare's Richard III and Julius Caesar

How they compare to each other and to real history

 
 

William Shakespeare is one of the greatest writers known to mankind.  Why?  It is because of his amazing talent to not only tell a story, but to take the great stories of history and tell them to an audience that may not have learned them otherwise, or if they already knew the story, to tell it in an entertaining manner with great skill.

One of Shakespeare's greatest skills was in his use of characters.  He used them to tell the story, not only by their actions, but by their motives.  It is this which makes Macbeth the tragic hero that he is, rather than just another guy wanting to wrest away the throne.  Shakespeare's characters can be seen fulfilling similar functions in each of his plays.  Using two of his Histories, Julius Caesar and Richard III, this presentation will compare Shakespeare's characters to each other, and also to their real-life counterparts.
